Week 3
I have decided to work on a booklet or zine highlighting four women's interpretation of their femininity and circumstance in response to her family, home, and personal life. I have a few different versions of how I would like to present this project. Right now, I am undecided on how to weave the women's stories altogether. Initially, I started off wanting this to be a pretty inclusive story about the female experience which required me to branch out and make sure I could find women of all ages to write for the book. In this area, I have definitely encountered some difficulties.
Currently, I am reaching out to a few friends of mine as well as my mentor to see who would be willing to write. I am planning on not making it a huge commitment for the writers as many of the people I am asking already have enough on their plate. My idea for this booklet would be to have 4 women each writing 3,000 words. 1,000 words on each topic: work, family, and personal life.
I have also been working on Are.na and decided that I really want this project to be very simple. I have found a lot of magazine layouts that I would like to model the book after. I will link some of those images underneath. On top of a simple design element, I would like to somehow incorporate multimedia into my booklet but I am unsure how at the moment.
Edit: Prof. suggested that I could somehow do an installation? I would love to mix this book with an event where I can showcase the women and their stories but I need to figure out how I could create a space that tells their stories but does not take away from the book.
